The annual Bill McAdam T20 Shield was hosted at the picturesque Ashford Oval in Plettenberg Bay on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 and has become a much-loved fixture on the Grey sporting calendar.
Held in honour of Bill McAdam (Class of 1962), the event pays tribute to his passion for cricket and his contribution to both the sport and the Grey community.
The McAdam’s family, who host the event each year, continue Bill’s legacy by welcoming Grey’s 1st XI and a spirited Old Boys team to compete in a friendly yet competitive T20 match.

Beyond the excitement on the field, the day is a wonderful gathering of the McAdam’s family and friends and the Grey community, both past and present, who come together to connect and celebrate a love of the game that spans generations.
Ashford Oval, developed under Bill’s vision, is a reminder of how one man’s passion continues to bring people together.
The weather made for a fantastic day of cricket, surrounded by Ashford Oval’s breathtaking beauty, with the pitch being in immaculate condition.
Teun Kloppenburg delivered a powerful hitting display, which sank the Old Boys quickly.

Xander Elikington scored 38 runs for the Old Boys side, with Teun Kloppenburg putting 74 on the board. Grey 1st XI won by 7 wickets.
1st XI Coach, Richard Gilbert, said he is sure the Old Boys will pick a strong side to set the record straight in 2026!
Bill’s son-in-law, Tyrone Yates, and granddaughter, Lucy McAdam, addressed the spectators after the match, sharing heartfelt memories of Bill, the significance of this fixture, and his love of the game.
