Celebrating Our Honorary Life Members for 2025

Announced at the Annual Reunion Dinner by Union President Mike Swanepoel

Each year at the Reunion Dinner, we honour those whose unwavering service and lasting impact have helped shape and strengthen The Grey community. The Honorary Life Membership is the Union’s highest accolade.

This year, we are proud to celebrate four outstanding individuals whose passion and commitment have left an indelible mark.

Dave Hurr, Class of 1984

A driving force within the Old Greys’ Union for over three decades, Dave Hurr has worn many hats — from Old Grey Club involvement to Union President (a role he held for nine years). His service spans across the Old Grey Cricket and Squash Clubs, the Grey Foundation, and the Union itself.

Dave’s generational legacy — following in the footsteps of his father Ed Hurr — and his unmatched “Gees” make him a true ambassador of The Grey. His passion is infectious, and his belief in Grey as a beacon of hope in South African education continues to inspire all who work with him.

Scott Rollo, Class of 1975

With deep family ties to The Grey, Scott Rollo has been a behind-the-scenes powerhouse since 2000. When he discovered the Union lacked an Old Boys database, he built one from scratch — eventually cataloguing over 15,000 alumni.

As Union Secretary since 2007, and more recently Chairman of the Old Grey Club, Scott has brought quiet dedication and hands-on leadership to every corner of our community. His years of tireless service have strengthened the foundation on which future generations of Old Greys will build.

John Wannenburg, Class of 1965

From Pennsylvania, USA, John Wannenburg continues to connect Old Greys globally. A proud member of the Class of 1965, John chairs The Grey Foundation Americas, expanding donor networks and was integral in securing donor funding worth $50 000 for Grey’s Junior School Coding and Robotics programme.

He has personally included Grey in his estate and actively fosters community-building through international events, from New York to the Caribbean and Palo Alto. John’s loyalty and leadership have greatly extended Grey’s global footprint.

Stanley Bergman, Class of 1968

Globally recognised leader and philanthropist Stanley Bergman may have reconnected with The Grey more recently but his impact has been profound. As CEO of Fortune 500® company Henry Schein, Stanley is a world-renowned business leader and champion of global health and education.

Together with his family, Stanley is a lead donor to Grey’s Music & Arts Centre, home of the Bergman Auditorium. Through hosting events in New York and supporting a range of social causes, he continues to uplift the Grey community and beyond.

These four men exemplify what it means to live out the Grey spirit — with heart, humility, and a commitment to service that transcends generations and geography.

We extend our deepest congratulations and gratitude to our 2025 Honorary Life Members: Dave Hurr, Scott Rollo, John Wannenburg, and Stanley Bergman.

Your contributions will resonate for years to come.
