Grey-Kolisi Foundation - CARE CAMPAIGN

National, South Africa

Business Details

6 May 2020

Dear Grey Family

The COVID-19 pandemic is a global challenge that has had an unparalleled impact on all our lives. None of us will ever be the same again and, in many ways, how we rise to the challenges that this virus poses will shape not just who we are as a Nation, but also us as a school community and individuals.

The challenges posted in response to the pandemic have also cast a very uncomfortable light on the poverty that many people in our communities confront on a daily basis. Not only are the vulnerable struggling more than ever, the number of those struggling is growing each day, even within our Grey community. As we go in to winter, this is only going to become more difficult.

We have been inspired by so many people who have stepped forward to help. Reaching out to others and assisting them is a core ethos at The Grey that we need to continue to encourage and nurture. In this regard, we have taken great interest in and been inspired by the work that the Kolisi Foundation has been doing in the distribution of care packages to those in need. Siya has approached us for assistance with this project and we are thrilled to launch a joint initiative with his Foundation.

Our aim is to supply care packages and essentials to families at his primary school as well as to Grey families who may be in need. We recognise that the winter months are going to be hard and that we must help others through this period. Lockdown may be eased, but the economic and social trauma is going to be long-lasting.

I am confident that, as a Grey Community, we can make a real difference in the lives of others and am therefore reaching out to you all and asking those who can, please adopt at least one family from Siya’s old primary school for a period of three months. This will entail a three-month long commitment of R600 per month to purchase a care package for a family for each of those months. This applies to qualifying Grey families as well.

The Kolisi Foundation will also donate care packages as well as organise the logistics and ensure that all legal requirements of distributing food are met. We, at The Grey, will receive and box the contents for each care package which will then be collected and distributed by the Kolisi Foundation.

Each care package will include:

Maize Meal, 10kgs

Everyday Veg Brine, 4 tins

Baked Beans, 4 tins

Lucky Star Pilchards, 5 tins

Hullets Sugar, 2kg

Salt, 1 x 500g bag

Siya and I are really excited about this venture as a way of not only assisting those struggling in these current times, but also as a way of bringing two communities that are dear to Siya closer to one another.

Once we have commenced this project, we will then challenge other schools like ours to follow suit. Together we can be part of something special that can be replicated elsewhere.

Regards

Christian Erasmus
